Powerquark’s automotive PMIC family welcomes a new member compatible with ASIL-D functional safety

2025-09-28

Powerquark has launched a brand-new automotive-grade SBC PQ6259XQ supporting ASIL-D functional safety. It is designed for 12V and 24V systems, integrating up to 7 power supplies in a single chip. PQ6259XQ features comprehensive output protection mechanisms, watchdog, and FCCU functions, and can be applied to automotive modules such as domain controllers, intelligent cockpits, and ADAS. The power/logic functions of PQ6259XQ offer hundreds of configurable options, providing customers with more generalized and highly integrated power solutions.

Key Power Support for Automotive Intelligence

SBC (System Basis Chip) is crucial for achieving automotive intelligence. As a highly integrated computing platform, SBC provides high-performance processors, large-capacity memory, and a rich set of interfaces, ensuring that vehicles can process complex tasks such as advanced driver assistance in real-time while driving, making quick and accurate decisions. Moreover, SBC can significantly save PCB area, extend the life of automotive batteries, reduce static current and system costs. It is predicted that by 2030, the global SBC chip market size will exceed 55 billion US dollars.
SBC needs to manage multiple power rails, providing efficient and stable power to different devices, as well as fault detection and protection functions to ensure high system reliability. With its deep accumulation in the power chip design, Southchip has released an SBC that meets the ASIL-D functional safety, compatible with system platforms of different voltage, achieving up to 7 output channels, offering a high-performance choice for ADAS.

Highly Integrated in a Single Chip

The PQ6259XQ is packaged in an 8mm*8mm QFN-56, integrating 5 DC-DC converters and 2 LDOs in a single chip. The integrated DC-DC converters include 1 synchronous high-voltage buck controller (VPRE), 1 asynchronous low-voltage boost converter with an integrated low-side switch (LVBOOST), and 3 low-voltage buck converters (LVBK). Through highly integrated design, the area of power components on the PCB is significantly reduced. Southchip provides a standardized reference design for PQ6259XQ, eliminating the need for manual optimization of noise, timing, dynamics, and software initialization, reducing design complexity and development cycle. PQ6259XQ supports I2C/SPI configuration and collaborates with MCU to manage power strategies.

ASIL-D High Reliable Products

The PQ6259XQ is developed in accordance with the ISO26262 ASIL-D functional safety process, meeting the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standard. It supports Logic Built-In Self-Test (LBIST) and Analog Built-In Self-Test (ABIST) to verify the correct functionality of safety logic and analog monitoring. It can be controlled via a 32-bit SPI or 40-bit I2C interface, providing PGOOD, reset, fail-safe output, and interrupt functions for diagnostics. To achieve better EMC performance, PQ6259XQ also integrates functions such as frequency synchronization, spread spectrum, slew rate control, and frequency fine-tuning.

PQ6259XQ has higher output load capacity and a wider configurable range of output voltage, helping OEMs accelerate development cycles and enhance the competitiveness of end products.

Multi-Function Flexible Application

PQ6259XQ offers various options for the number of LVBK, FCCU functions, and VMONx channels, with multiple voltage monitoring functions. It can be configured with simple or challenging watchdogs, FCCU monitoring functions with fault recovery strategies, and external integrated circuit monitoring functions. The PQ6259XQ features 2 wake-up input pins (WAKE1/2); it includes an analog multiplexer (AMUX) for MCU to achieve redundant monitoring; and it can synchronize power-up with other PMICs, facilitating system expansion.
